Bhubaneswar: Several cases of violence, including group clashes and attacks on contesting candidates, were reported again ahead of the fourth phase of the panchayat elections in Odisha.
One person died during a group clash following a dispute over election campaigning at Jahangir village under Dhamnagar police limits in Bhadrak district on Monday.
Reportedly, the deceased identified as Pratap Chandra Rout and a few others had an argument with some persons yesterday morning during poll campaigning. Later in the evening, some miscreants attacked Rout.
This led to a clash between the two groups. During the skirmish, Rout fell unconscious and rushed to Dhamnagar Community Health Centre (CHC) where the doctor declared him dead.
In Kendrapara, a Sarpanch candidate of Sana Adhanga gram panchayat was allegedly attacked by miscreants late on Monday night.
The victim identified as Amiya Ranjan Sahu was rescued from a nullah in a critical condition late last night. He was rushed to the Kendrapara hospital for treatment and then shifted to the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.
In Cuttack, nine persons were injured in a group clash at Mania village under Tangi police limits. One among them has been hospitalised with critical injuries.
