Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials today arrested a Block Education Officer (BEO) in Bargarh district for demanding and accepting bribe.
BEO of Jharbandh block in Bargarh district Ranjit Bhoi was caught red-handed by officials of the anti-corruption agency while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a headmaster for release of pending salary of teachers of his school under Jharbandh block.
Based on the complaint of the headmaster Vigilance officials laid a trap today wherein accused Bhoi was caught at the residence of the headmaster at Chandibhata under Jagdalpur police limits in Bargarh district while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000, said an official press release.
Vigilance officials recovered the entire bribe money from Bhoi’s possession in presence of witnesses.
The accused’s hand wash as well as shirt pocket wash gave positive chemical reaction which confirmed his acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Following the trap, Vigilance launched searches at the residence of Bhoi at Tal under Melchhamunda police limits and his office chamber at Jharbandh block.
Bhoi has been arrested and will be forwarded to court, the release said.
A case has been registered against Bhoi under section 7 of PC Act 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
