Cuttack: Even as wildlife lovers are raising a hue and cry over elephant deaths in Odisha at regular intervals, another pachyderm was found dead in the Athagarh forest division raising concerns over the safety of jumbos in the area.
According to reports, the carcass of the tusker was found with injuries on its trunk in the Nuataila cashew orchard. The tusks of the elephant are intact but the cause of the animal’s death is yet to be ascertained.
Forest department officials have reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter.
For quite some time now, the Athagarh forest division is in the news for regular elephant deaths in the region. Moreover, the Forest division was in the news recently after an alleged poacher died in its custody.
