ITR Chandipur Espionage Case: AP Intelligence, Airforce Teams Quiz Accused

Balasore: Police have been able to extract some additional information from Baburam Dey, senior technical officer of Interim Test Range (ITR), Chandipur under Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) who was arrested on Friday on charges of espionage.

The Balasore police had taken Dey on a four-day remand on Saturday for further interrogation.

Dey has spilled out the information during his interrogation.

“In the case registered at Chandipur related to ITR matter, we have got the accused on remand. During questioning in the last two days we have gathered some additional information. To validate that information and what data has been transmitted through that mobile along with our team, Intelligence team of Andhra Pradesh and a team of the Airforce are combinedly interrogating the accused to get more information and as well as ascertain what data has been leaked,” informed Balasore SP Sagarika Nath addressing a presser here today.

Nath further informed that the police have seized six pieces of electronic electronic equipment in this connection which they will be sending to Delhi or Kolkata for further forensic and technical analysis  depending upon how quick it can be done. The accused was working in the section dealing with telemetry data, she added.

“During the one day remand period left we will to the maximum possible try to establish the technical information we have. We have already gathered some information in our financial investigation and will also try for establishing it. If required we will seek to take the accused on further remand,” the Balasore SP said.

Dey was arrested on Friday on charges of espionage. He allegedly leaked/shared/transmitted sensitive/secret information regarding missile test, etc. to one foreign agent of Pakistan for sexual as well as monetary gratification over WhatsApp.
