Koraput: Two women were killed and an equal number were critically injured when earth caved in on them near Hakimput under Nandapur police limits in Koraput district today.
The accident occurred while they were digging on the embankment of the Lenziput river to collect clay for mud plastering their houses.
According to reports, the deceased and the injured are from Ghagdapandi village. While the deceased have been identified as Daimati Hantal and Sashi Hantal, the injured have been identified as Jyoti Badnayak and Mukta Kirsani.
The injured have been admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Nandapur.
On being informed, Fire Service personnel from Nandapur rushed to the spot and with the help of locals rescued the injured and retrieved the bodies which were buried under the earth.
These women had gone to collect clay to be used for mud plastering their houses, ahead of the Chaiti Parab, a festival of the local adivasis.
