Bhubaneswar: With 257 fresh new active cases of Covid-19 detected in Odisha in the last 24 hours, the total number of infections in the state has gone up to 1,186, Union Health Ministry data showed on Friday.
One Covid-19 patient has also succumbed to the infection in Odisha during this period. The deceased has been identified as a 65-year-old woman from the Jharsuguda district. She was suffering from an acute kidney infection, chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease and pulmonary oedema, the Odisha Health Department tweeted.
Earlier, a 50-year-old man from Sundargarh district had succumbed to Covid-19 while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
It is worth mentioning here that at least 200 new active Covid-19 cases are being recorded in Odisha every day for the last three days. On Thursday, the tally of active Covid-19 cases crossed the 1,000 mark for the first time this year.
With the gradual increase in infections, the Covid-19 scare has returned to the state. Sonepur recorded the highest weekly positivity rate of 10.8 per cent in the state between April 5 and 11, while four other districts recorded a TPR of over 5 per cent. These districts are Sambalpur (9.6), Sundargarh (9.1 per cent), Balangir (7.6) and Nabarangpur (5.4).
According to the state Health Department, Nabarangpur, Sambalpur and Sundargarh have been recording more than 30 cases each daily for the last four days.
While the daily test positivity rate has gone up to 4% from 2% a couple of days ago, testing has dropped from 6,000 to less than 5,000 in the state. The state is also seeing a rise in juvenile cases which suggests that the infection has started spreading among children.
