Cuttack: Cuttack Mayor Subash Singh today announced that an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh will be paid to the family of the minor girl who succumbed to her injuries after getting trapped under huge drainage pipes of the box drain project of JICA in the Kesharpur area of the city.
“We have announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to be paid to the family of the deceased minor girl after holding discussions at a high-level meeting here,” informed Cuttack Mayor Subash Singh speaking to reporters.
Singh told that the Commissioner of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has been ordered to conduct an enquiry into yesterday’s unfortunate incident to find out lapses etc. so that no such incidents recur in future.
He said that stringent action will be taken against those found guilty of lapses.
“We passed a resolution today that wherever development works are being carried out be it Taladanda canal, WATCO, JICA, Box Drain Project, electricity, etc, the agencies concerned have to fix signages within three days and erect baricades within seven days wherever there is danger to life. They will communicate to us and wherever we find any act of negligence we shall be taking stringent action,” the Cuttack Mayor pointed out.
He added that development projects will be implemented but certainly with the utmost concern for the safety and security of the citizens.
Singh said that the high-level meeting on safety and security was attended by officers of the district administration, police administration, JICA, WATCO, the box drain project, and heads of the various Engineering sections.
