Bhubaneswar: In a daring heist, two unidentified bike-borne miscreants threatened and snatched a necklace from Balasore SP Sagarika Nath’s parents while they were returning home from a relative’s place at Satya Sai Enclave under Bharatpur police limits, late Sunday night.
While the chain-snatching attempt was underway, one of the two miscreants posed as a passerby seeking coordinates of a place from Nath’s mother, while her father was in the driver’s seat. In the next moment, the youth pulled the elderly woman’s chain and rushed towards their motorcycle parked before the couple’s car.
Nath’s father did not spare a moment to comprehend the situation and drove the car towards the bike, while the miscreant-duo was trying to flee. They abandoned the motorcycle on the spot and fled into the woods in the vicinity, while locals gathered at the spot to help the elderly couple.
The matter came to light after the victims filed a complaint with Bharatpur police on the incident. On the basis of their complaint, a case has been registered and a manhunt launched to nab the unidentified accused on the run, the police said.
Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh later told the media that Bharatpur IIC is probing the case and the two miscreants have been identified. “We have also seized the motorbike used by the miscreants. It has been found to have been a stolen vehicle,” he added.
