Bhubaneswar: Balangir district police has suspended the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Titilagarh MLA Naveen Jain, for his failure to prevent the MLA from firing blank shots during the Ram Navami procession.
The district police headquarters had first issued a show cause notice to the PSO, Prema Chand Nag, following the controversial incident. Shortly after receiving the notice, Nag was placed under immediate suspension.
Balangir Superintendent of Police Abilash G informed that strict departmental action was taken against the PSO for negligence in duty.
The incident had occurred on Friday during the Ram Navami procession in Titilagarh when MLA Naveen Jain was seen publicly firing blank shots into the air at Shastri Square and Old Bank Square. A video of the MLA holding a gun in a dramatic style had gone viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism.
Further investigation into the matter is underway to determine if any legal provisions were violated during the firing incident.
