Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar has completed the process of handing over all 28 unidentified and unclaimed dead bodies of the Bahanaga train tragedy preserved in the hospital to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities on Tuesday.
Following the completion of this process, there are no dead bodies at the AIIMS Bhubaneswar. On Tuesday, BMC cremated the 28 unclaimed bodies at the Bharatpur crematorium here.
The national institute received 162 dead bodies in two phases. While 81 bodies were handed over to their family and relatives in the first phase, the DNA samples of the remaining bodies were sent to New Delhi as there were multiple claimants and a few other issues.
In the second phase of the body handing over process, 28 bodies were preserved at the AIIMS. The total number of accident victims’ bodies to the BMC on Tuesday was 162.
