Angul: In a horrendous incident, an abandoned newborn girl was reportedly mauled by a stray dog in the Shardapur area under Sadar police limits of Odisha’s Angul district on Sunday.
According to reports, someone had abandoned the newborn baby beside a road in an isolated place. A stray dog found the infant and devoured her body parts. A youth from Talcher who was passing through the area on a bike saw a stray dog mauling the newborn baby and stopped.
He chased the dog away but by then the animal had devoured most body parts of the infant.
He alerted the locals who called an ambulance to rush the baby for treatment. However, by the time the ambulance arrived at the spot, the newborn baby was already dead.
On being informed, Angul police seized the body of the newborn and registered a case of unnatural death. The dead body of the child has been preserved in the Angul mortuary.
