Bhubaneswar: Police today arrested the man who attempted to kill his wife by stabbing her with a knife at her office in Krutibandhu Apartment near Baramunda in the city on Monday.
The accused identified as Sapan Kuamr Kar, a resident of Soro in Balaaore was forwarded to court, ACP Pradeep Rout said.
At a press meet, Rout revealed that the family feud was the main motive behind the murderous attack.
Sapan’s wife Madhusmita has been staying at her paternal home for the last two years due to a family feud. She had joined as a sales executive in a real estate firm a week ago, the ACP added.
Sapan, who worked in a Pune-based Restaurant, had recently called Madhusmita to attend the 10th-day ritual of his uncle (father’s elder brother), but Madhusmita didn’t come. Her absence in the ritual irked Sapan. He enquired about her whereabouts and reached the Suvashanti real estate firm office, ACP added.
“He called her over phone to come outside. Later, a war of words ensued between the two. Irked over a verbal duel, Sapan stabbed her with a knife multiples times. She suffered grievous injuries on her stomach, back, hands. She ran away in fear towards the office where other staff rescued her,” Rout added.
On being informed, a team of police led by Bharatpur IIC reached there and arrested the accused.
Later, the Real Estate firm owner Panu Charan Rout lodged a complaint based on which a case has been registered at Bharatpur police station, the ACP said.
Police also called her family members for questioning.
Sapan was also suspicious of his wife and had frequent fights with her, the ACP pointed out.
During the course of the investigation, police also knew that Madhusmita had also lodged a dowry torture case against her husband in Soro.
They had got married in 2018. They have a 5-year-old son, the ACP informed.
