Bhubaneswar: Yet another feather was added to the cap of SCB Medical College & Hospital at Cuttack when its doctors successfully performed the State’s first and rare haploidentical transplant at the hospital’s Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit.
Following the transplant the condition of the patient and the stem cell donor is stated to be stable.
Haplo-BMT is a revolutionary life-saving procedure which enables transplant from half-matched donors.
The patient’s father Sanatan Sahu has said that his son has been suffering from blood cancer for the last ten years and was undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College & Hospital.
Sahu informed that the doctors have transplanted the stem cell collected from his younger son.
He said the procedure was provided to his son completely free with the support of the State government.
