Bhubaneswar: One person was killed and three others including two female students, sustained critical injuries after the speeding car they were travelling by hit a trailer truck from behind on NH-16 near Gourachandrapur Chhak on Chandpur bypass road in Khurda district on Sunday.
The deceased youth was identified as Amarjyoti Rout (28) from Jahangir locality in Dhamra in the Bhadrak district. The critically injured youth has been identified as Deepti Samantaray (24) from Kendrapara district. The critically injured female students are Ranjita Nayak and Komal Sharma from the Kalahandi and Bhadrak districts respectively.
According to reports, the four students studying in a Bhubaneswar college were going to Chilika when the accident occurred.
The four critically injured were rescued by the locals with the help of Fire Services personnel and rushed to a nearby government-run health facility for treatment. One of them was declared ‘dead’ by the doctors in the hospital.
Later, the three others were shifted to Bhubaneswar AIIMS as their conditions deteriorated.
On being informed, Chandpur police reached the spot and launched a probe.
