Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police launched a massive crackdown against the use of tinted glass on windscreens in four-wheelers in the State Capital ahead of the twin elections in the State.

The drive was carried out by the joint team of traffic police and RTO officials, police commissioner Sanjeeb Panda said. The team was found checking the vehicles at various strategic locations in the city and removed such glasses from the vehicle with imposing fine.

“We have launched a special drive against the use of dark film in car and four-wheelers in Bhubaneswar. The drive has been launched since Tuesday. The cars having dark glass are often used in illegal activities. So, we appeal to the public to refrain from using such film in their vehicle,” Panda said.

The crackdown was carried out jointly by RTO officials and police, he informed.

“If anyone found using such glass, we will remove it with a fine of up to Rs 5,000. They can also be prosecuted under law,” Panda added.

Over 50 violators have been caught during the drive in the last two days.

With elections round the corner, vehicles with black film on the windscreen are seen used in the illegal transport of liquor, drugs and cash.

Notably, the use of tinted glass in four-wheelers was banned by the Supreme Court in 2012.
