Baripada: Mayurbhanj Additional Sessions Judge Court-I on Friday sentenced a youth to undergo life imprisonment after convicting him of murder.
The court apart from sentencing convict Rajesh Mahanta alias Pathar to life imprisonment imposed a fine of Rs 50,000, in default Rajesh has to undergo imprisonment for six months more.
The court pronounced the verdict based on statements of 16 witnesses, a medical report and the investigation report of the police.
According to details of the case, on 2nd February 2023, Rajesh had a quarrel with Anil Kumar Mahanta over some issue. Irked, Rajesh brutally hacked Anil with a machete.
A profusely bleeding Anil was initially taken to the local health care centre at Sirsa and was later shifted to PRM Medical College & Hospital here. However, he was declared dead by the doctors.
Deceased Anil’s son lodged a written complaint at the Jharpokharia police station in this connection. Police registered a case and arrested Rajesh before forwarding him to court.
