Bhubaneswar: A six-month-old infant was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Mundasahi village under Choudwar police limits in Cuttack district. However, villagers accused the infant’s parents of killing the infant in an inebriated condition and burying him in the nearest crematorium.
According to villagers, his parents, who are alcoholics, killed the child.
“We saw the child was fine the previous night, but this morning, the parents said he died. We suspect they killed the child in a drunken state”, said villagers who rushed to the police station demanding an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the accused parents denied the allegations, claiming the child died from cold and cough. They claimed that they gave medicine as prescribed by doctors of the government hospital. He, however, died last night from cough and cold.
Based on the complaint filed by villagers, police initiated an investigation into the incident.
It is learnt that the body of the infant would be dug in the presence of the magistrate and sent for post-mortem.
