Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday disbursed financial assistance of Rs 5,000 as the third phase of the first installment to over 20 lakh new beneficiaries under Odisha’s largest women empowerment scheme ‘Subhadra’.
It is worth noting that in the first phase, assistance to over 25 lakh beneficiaries was transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries and, in the second phase, assistance to over 35 lakh beneficiaries was provided at Baripada in Mayurbhanj. By the third phase, 80 lakh women of the state have received assistance of Rs 4,000 crore.
While disbursing this assistance, the Chief Minister said that the money will help in making the dreams and aspirations of women a reality. “The fruits of development should be felt by people from all walks of life. Subhadra Yojana is a well-thought-out and beautiful step in this direction,” he said.
“The Odia culture is a reflection of Jagannath culture. In the Sri Jagannath culture, Maa Subhadra is the embodiment of equality and strength. All the mothers and sisters of Odisha are the embodiment of Maa Subhadra for me. In the Odisha culture, we give due respect to women. A living example of this is our Raja Parva,” the Chief Minister observed.
In his speech, the Chief Minister also praised the Sundargarh district and said that it is the cradle of hockey. He appreciated the contribution of Sundargarh to Odisha in the fields of education, health, mining, industry and tourism.
The Chief Minister also recalled the contribution of Sundargarh in the freedom struggle. He said that Sundargarh offered unwavering support to Veer Surendra Sai and Birsa Munda and under their leadership, countless tribal brothers and sisters joined the freedom struggle against the British rule. “A huge people’s movement was started under the leadership of Nirmal Munda in Birmitrapur of Sundargarh district. Similarly, the sons of this land, Jagan Tanti, Balabhadra Tanti, Portika Nath Kusum played prominent roles in the freedom struggle.”
Majhi informed that 4.59 lakh mothers and daughters in Sundargarh district have registered for Subhadra Yojana and the first installment of money has been given to more than 3.37 lakh women.
The Chief Minister also launched 984 projects worth Rs 1,201 crore in Sundargarh district on Sunday. The Chief Minister inaugurated 692 development projects worth Rs 808,30,15,000 in Sundargarh
Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram said that the state government is working with commitment for the development of women. Women’s empowerment must be taken forward by including all eligible beneficiaries in the Subhadra Yojana.
