Baleshwar: Locals and members of the School Management Committee (SMC) on Wednesday locked the gate of Satyanarayan Government Nodal High School at Rasalpur village under Khantapada police limits in Baleshwar district, protesting against the stray dog attack on a student and demanding immediate measures to ensure the safety of children on the school premises.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday when a student was attacked by a stray dog while going to the school washroom. The dog reportedly bit the student’s right thumb severely and also injured other parts of the body.
Hearing the student’s screams, other students rushed to the spot and managed to drive the dog away. The injured student was subsequently taken to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Baleshwar for treatment.
However, as the student’s condition deteriorated, doctors referred the student to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka for further treatment.
The incident triggered anger among local residents and members of the SMC, who alleged that the presence of stray dogs around the school poses a serious threat to students.
On Wednesday, the protesters locked the school gate and staged a demonstration, demanding immediate steps to prevent stray dogs from entering the school premises and ensure the safety of students.
The protest was underway at the time of filing this report.
