Bhubaneswar: The Police Commissionerate of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack has imposed traffic restrictions to address severe congestion on NH-16 and State Highways in and around Bhubaneswar during evening hours.
The restrictions, aimed at ensuring public safety and improving traffic flow, will be effective from today until further notice.
In a public notice issued by Commissioner of Police, Suresh Dev Datta Singh, it was stated that significant traffic congestion occurs daily between 5 PM and 10 PM, causing inconvenience to the public.
To mitigate this, specific traffic regulations have been implemented under Section 28 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003, and Regulation 36 of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) Regulations, 2008.
Key restrictions include:
- Diversion for Goods Carriers from Khurda: Trucks and trailers with six or more wheels coming from Khurda towards Cuttack via Bhubaneswar will be diverted at Pitapalli Square towards Cuttack via Chandaka Square.
- Restriction on Goods Carriers from Mancheswar: Goods vehicles from the Mancheswar Industrial area are prohibited from accessing NH-16 at Rasulgarh Square during the restricted hours.
Violators of this order will face penalties under Section 96 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003. The offense is compoundable with a minimum fine of ₹500, which may extend to ₹1,000.
The Police Commissioner stated that these measures are crucial to ensure smoother traffic regulation and public safety, and compliance is mandatory for all concerned.
