Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Jayadev Jena has alleged that he received a death threat from an unidentified caller on Wednesday.
Jena reported that the caller demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh and warned of severe consequences if the amount was not paid.
The caller, speaking in Odia, reportedly suggested that Jena could send Rs 50,000 if he was unable to arrange the full amount. The senior Congress leader claimed that the caller explicitly threatened his life if the demands were not met.
Jena has brought the matter to the attention of the Chief Minister and filed a formal complaint at the Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar. He stated that the threat call came shortly after he returned from a press conference. Police have initiated an investigation to trace the source of the call.
Expressing concern over his safety, Jena criticized the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, highlighting the recent robbery at senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik’s residence as evidence of rising insecurity.
