Bhubaneswar: A total of 73 police officers and 15 platoons of security personnel will be deployed across Bhubaneswar to regulate traffic and prevent road accidents during the Durga Puja festivities, from Friday until October 22, Traffic ACP Umakanta Pradhan said today.
The special arrangements have been made to ensure smooth traffic movement, regulate crowds and strengthen road safety measures during the festive period, he said.
With repeated road accidents in the capital city raising concerns, the traffic police have intensified public awareness campaigns and enforcement measures to prevent violations and ensure the safety of commuters.
The police will maintain a strict vigil on drunk driving, overspeeding and reckless driving during the festivities. Special checking drives will be conducted to detect traffic violations, and strict action will be taken against those found flouting traffic rules, Pradhan said.
The police have also appealed to motorists to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol and avoid overspeeding. Commuters have been urged to follow traffic regulations and drive responsibly to ensure their safety and that of other road users.
With large crowds expected at various locations during Durga Puja, the deployment of additional personnel is aimed at minimising traffic congestion, facilitating the movement of vehicles and ensuring safer travel across the city, the police said.
