Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is planning to develop a new city near Bhubaneswar to accommodate the state’s rapidly growing population.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi discussed the proposal with senior officials while reviewing the projects and initiatives of the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department at Lok Seva Bhawan on Friday.
In addition to the new city, the government is also considering the establishment of a Greater Economic Region, integrating Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, and Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district.
This ambitious project aims to develop an extensive 8,500 sq km area with world-class infrastructure, ensuring long-term urban and economic sustainability.
The plan is designed to address the region’s needs for the next 50 years and is a significant step toward achieving the vision of a Viksit Odisha (Developed Odisha) by 2036.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project, which is expected to enhance connectivity and ease traffic congestion in the capital and surrounding areas.
The government’s strategic focus on urban expansion and infrastructure development is set to transform Odisha into a key economic and industrial hub in the coming decades.
