Angul: Miscreants allegedly decamped with cash worth Rs 4 lakh and gold ornaments worth around Rs 7 lakh from the house at Bhagabatpur village under Banarpal police limits in Angul district, on Tuesday night.
According to sources, miscreants broke into the house of Bijay Bhutia, a resident of Bhagabatpur when he had gone out with his wife to attend Joranda Mela. Bijay’s two minor children and his brother’s wife were at home when a group of five to six miscreants stormed into the house.
The miscreants allegedly gagged his brother’s wife, tied her hands and assaulted her. The robbers are reported to have threatened her to kill the children if she didn’t hand over the valuables. They looted cash worth Rs 4 lakh and gold ornaments worth around Rs 7 lakh.
The family members were left shaken by the incident. After the miscreants fled, the family informed the villagers, who immediately informed police.
Upon being informed, police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.
The police are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning locals to identify the culprits. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the accused.
