Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has intensified its efforts to curb the illegal liquor trade and has taken stringent legal action against those involved.
Moving forward, this momentum will be further accelerated with proposed legal reforms aimed at completely eradicating illegal liquor activities.
These changes will be incorporated into the upcoming excise policy, ensuring stricter enforcement and improved regulatory measures.
Excise officers and staff have been urged to enhance their efficiency and contribute towards upholding the reputation of the state, stated Prithviraj Harichandan, Minister of Law, Public Works, and Excise, during a review meeting held today at the Lok Seva Bhavan’s second-floor conference hall.
According to an official press release, Minister Harichandan reviewed various aspects of the Excise Department’s operations with district Excise Superintendents.
Key issues discussed included district-wise enforcement activities, revenue collection, the number of registered cases, mahua flower sales, production and sale of country liquor, and the status of seized vehicles.
The Minister also emphasized the urgent need to fill vacant positions in the department and provide regular training for officers and staff. Additionally, discussions were held regarding the construction of staff quarters and the operational status of excise depots in various districts.
Present at the meeting were the Department’s Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, Excise Commissioner Narasingh Bhol, OSBC Managing Director Amber Kar, OSBC General Manager Sanjay Kumar Rout, and various district Excise Superintendents and departmental officers.
