Jajpur: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across the Sukinda region of Jajpur district, a woman allegedly murdered her husband following a heated family dispute and buried his body in a nearby forest.
The accused, identified as Dumari Munda Dubikhal village under the Sansailo Panchayat area later surrendered at the Sukinda police station, confessing to the crime.
According to reports, Dumari Munda killed her husband, Babuli Munda, after a violent altercation. The couple, who had been married for seven years, had a history of frequent quarrels over domestic issues.
Babuli, originally from Balasore, had married Dumari seven years ago. The couple later moved to Dumari’s village, Dubikhal and stayed at Dumari’s parental house. However, their relationship was marred by constant conflicts.
On last Thursday, while Dumari’s parents had gone to the market, Babuli, under the influence of alcohol, allegedly physically assaulted and verbally abused Dumari. Enraged, Dumari allegedly retaliated by attacking him with a stick, leading to his instantaneous death.
After the incident, Dumari kept the body inside the house throughout the day. When her parents returned from the market in the evening, they were informed of the tragedy. In a bid to conceal the crime, the family, along with Dumari, buried Babuli’s body in the forest behind their house.
The matter came to light when villagers learned of the incident and urged Dumari’s family to report it to the police. Following their advice, on Sunday night Dumari surrendered at the Sukinda police station and confessed to the crime.
Following Dumari’s surrender Sukinda police have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation.
A scientific team of the Sukinda police on Monday, in the presence of Sukinda Tahsildar and the Additional Superintendent of Police of Kalinga Nagar exhumed the body from the forest behind accused Dumari’s house and have sent it for postmortem.
Further investigations are ongoing, and the police are expected to uncover more details about the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
