Bhubaneswar: Rain and thunderstorms with heavy wind hit the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Tuesday evening. On Tuesday afternoon, it rained in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for over 45 minutes, accompanied by gusty winds.

Many low-lying areas in Cuttack were inundated due to the heavy rain, disrupting traffic movement for quite some time. Rainwater entered the famous Chandi Temple in Cuttack, affecting rituals and devotees’ darshan. The Kalabaisakhi rain also hit several areas in the capital city, including Chandrasekharpur, Patia, and Raghunathpur.

Earlier, the Meteorological Department had issued an alert for rain and wind for four days, predicting Kalabaisakhi (Nor’wester) rain in coastal, north, and south Odisha, with thunderstorms and lightning possible in some places.

A yellow alert was issued for 19 districts, including Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, and Nayagarh, among others, warning of thunderstorms, rain, and winds of 40-50 km/h, with hailstorms likely in some areas. Light to moderate rain is expected in western Odisha, while the weather is expected to remain dry from April 19.

The temperature is expected to remain stable for the next 4-5 days. The state will experience rain and wind for a few days due to the influence of Kalabaisakhi.
