Bhubaneswar: A couple sustained severe injuries after being attacked by a rogue elephant at Udayagiri village under Telkoi forest range in Keonjhar district.
The injured have been identified as Labanya Palai and his husband Jadu Palai.
According to reports, as the couple was heading towards the nearby cashew plantation on the outskirts of their village, they fell prey to a herd of elephants. One of the elephants first lifted Labanya up with its trunk and trampled her left palm, causing severe injuries to her palm. Meanwhile, when her husband, Jadu, rushed to save her, the elephant attacked him as well, striking him in the chest with its tusks, leaving him critically injured.
With the help of the villagers, the couple was initially admitted to the Telkoi hospital. As their condition deteriorated, they were later referred to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment.
