Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala by May 27, bringing much-needed relief to the country.
According to senior scientist and weather specialist Umashankar Das, the monsoon’s arrival may vary by up to four days due to model errors.
In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Das mentioned that the monsoon is expected to hit the mainland near Kerala around May 27. This would mark an early arrival of the monsoon, which typically brings respite from the scorching summer heat.
Over the past few years, the monsoon has arrived in Kerala on the following dates: May 30 in 2024, June 8 in 2023, May 29 in 2022, June 3 in 2021, and June 1 in 2020.
On the other hand, the next five days are expected to be scorching hot in Odisha, with the heatwave likely to intensify.
According to the IMD forecast, the coastal region will experience heat and humidity today. Western Odisha may witness heatwaves on May 11, 12, and 13, while the interior parts of the state are expected to face heatwaves on May 14.
