Bhubaneswar: A youth lost his life in a tragic road accident when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a 10-wheeler truck near the Jagannath petrol pump under Khantapada police station limits in Balasore district early Saturday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Dhananjay, a resident of Bejpali village under Biramaharajpur police station in Subarnapur district.
According to reports, Dhananjay was travelling to Balasore with two friends on a motorcycle. The mishap occurred when he was exiting the Jagannath petrol pump after refueling. A truck bearing registration number (OR 01H 0392) allegedly hit the motorcycle, causing Dhananjay to fall by the roadside. He sustained critical injuries and was found lying in a pool of blood.
Alert locals managed to stop the truck and immediately rushed Dhananjay to the Khantapada Community Health Centre (CHC). However, doctors at the facility declared him brought dead.
Following the incident, Khantapada Police arrived at the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
In a shocking development, the two friends accompanying Dhananjay reportedly fled the scene after the accident. Police are trying to trace their whereabouts to ascertain further details about the incident.
