20 Lakh Ration Cards Set For Cancellation Over Incomplete e-KYC: Minister

Bhubaneswar: Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Wednesday announced that nearly 20 lakh ration cardholders face removal from the beneficiary list for failing to complete the mandatory e-KYC verification.

Speaking at a press conference, Patra emphasized that beneficiaries must finish the e-KYC process within June to continue receiving ration entitlements. “About 95% of existing beneficiaries have already completed e-KYC. Those who fail to comply within the deadline will be deemed ineligible,” he stated.

Targeting the previous BJD-led administration, the Minister alleged that no new ration cards had been issued in the past 13 years. He contrasted this with the current BJP-led government’s approach, which he said prioritizes accessibility and inclusiveness in welfare schemes.

“Since coming to power, the government has received over 17 lakh new applications for ration cards. Distribution of around 6 lakh ration cards is already underway, and approval has been granted for the issuance of another 15 lakh,” Patra informed.

He urged citizens to use Jana Seva Kendras for e-KYC updates and new applications instead of visiting block offices, calling it a faster and more efficient method.

The move is part of the government’s broader push to streamline welfare delivery and ensure that only verified and deserving individuals receive subsidized food support.
