Bhubaneswar: An upper air cyclonic circulation over the Southeast and adjoining East-Central Bay of Bengal at 5.8 km above mean sea level has prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a ‘Yellow’ alert for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds (30-40 kmph) across several districts of Odisha from June 9 to June 13.
According to IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, light to moderate rainfall has occurred at a few places in the districts of North Odisha and at one or two places in the districts of South Odisha.
The IMD has also issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for June 9, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds (30–40 kmph) at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
Similarly, another ‘Yellow’ warning has been issued for June 10 for likely occurrences in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.
On June 11, yet another ‘Yellow’ warning has been issued for the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
The IMD has continued the ‘Yellow’ warning for June 12 and 13, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at one or two places across several districts of Odisha.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious and take necessary precautions during this period. The IMD also predicts no significant change in maximum temperatures across the state in the coming days.
