Balasore: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Wednesday directed district officials to work in close coordination with public representatives to ensure effective relief and rehabilitation measures in flood-affected areas of Balasore district.
Parida issued the directive during her visit to several flood-hit regions, where she reviewed the extent of damage and ongoing rescue and relief operations. She began the day with an aerial survey of the affected zones, observing widespread inundation in agricultural lands and residential areas across 154 villages spanning six blocks—Bhograi, Baliapal, Basta, Jaleswar, Balasore Sadar, and Remuna—as well as eight wards under Jaleswar Municipality.
Following the aerial survey, the Deputy Chief Minister visited Baunsakhana village in Bhograi block by boat to assess the on-ground situation. At Baunsakhana Primary School, which is currently functioning as a relief shelter, she interacted with residents to understand their needs and assured them of government support. She instructed officials to ensure the availability of essential services, including food, healthcare, drinking water, and shelter materials.
Parida also visited Chaudhuri Kud village in Madhupura Panchayat of Baliapal block, where she spoke with locals to assess the flood’s impact on homes and farmlands and the availability of relief materials. She emphasized the need for the timely delivery of services and collaborative action between the administration and elected representatives.
Later, the Deputy Chief Minister chaired a review meeting at the Talasari guest house, where she took stock of the situation in each block. Balasore MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi, local MLAs, and senior officials, including the District Collector and Superintendent of Police, provided updates on the supply of dry and cooked food, clean drinking water, medical assistance, polythene sheets, and fodder for livestock.
Parida instructed the Collector to take immediate and comprehensive measures to address all issues faced by the affected communities. She also conveyed Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s directive to provide all necessary assistance and ensure that no family or livestock is left unattended during the ongoing crisis.
