Bhubaneswar: Schools will remain closed in Nabarangpur district, while 89 schools in Bhadrak district will remain shut on Monday (August 24) in view of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning.
The precautionary decision has been taken by the respective district administrations amid continuous rainfall, concerns over difficult commuting conditions and the prevailing flood situation in parts of the two districts.
In Nabarangpur, the District Collector has ordered the closure of all Anganwadi centres as well as government, government-aided and private schools across the district on Monday.
The administration said the decision was taken in view of the prevailing weather conditions and the safety of students travelling to and from educational institutions. Continuous rainfall in several parts of the district has also raised concerns over road connectivity and transportation.
However, the closure will apply only to students. Headmasters, headmistresses, teachers, Anganwadi workers and other staff members have been directed to attend their respective institutions as per the normal schedule.
Meanwhile, in Bhadrak district, the administration has ordered the closure of 89 schools located in Bhadrak, Tihidi and Chandbali blocks on Monday.
The decision comes against the backdrop of continuous rainfall, the prevailing flood situation and ongoing restoration work in several affected areas.
The move has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and prevent them from travelling through potentially affected areas during the adverse weather conditions.
Parents and guardians have been advised to keep children indoors and avoid unnecessary travel unless required.
The district administrations are closely monitoring the weather and ground situation. Officials said further decisions regarding the functioning of educational institutions will be taken based on weather conditions and field-level assessments.
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, prompting authorities in vulnerable areas to take precautionary measures.
