Cuttack: The Ravenshaw University administration has withdrawn the suspension of 10 senior students who were previously accused of ragging first-year students at the East Hostel, following a fresh twist in the incident that stirred controversy on campus.
In an official notice issued on Tuesday, the Chief Warden announced the revocation of disciplinary action, which had earlier directed the accused third-year undergraduate boarders to vacate the hostel. The initial suspension was based on the Anti-Ragging Committee’s recommendation after a preliminary probe into the alleged incident of verbal abuse late Saturday night.
The disciplinary action, however, sparked strong protests from the suspended students, who staged a sit-in demanding a fair hearing. They alleged that no credible evidence had been presented against them and claimed they were being punished unjustly.
In a surprising turn, the first-year students who were reportedly the victims also stated before the media that no ragging had occurred. They claimed they were pressured into filing complaints, casting doubt over the legitimacy of the allegations.
Amid growing confusion, conflicting testimonies, and lack of conclusive proof, the university authorities decided to rescind the suspension orders, aiming to restore calm on campus.
