Bhubaneswar: A 56-year-old farmer was killed by an elephant in the Hindol forest area of Dhenkanal district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Sudhakar Samal, a resident of Tangisala village under Hindol block.
According to reports, Sudhakar had gone to his farm on Friday but did not return by evening. His family members searched for him but could not find him. His family members and villagers did not venture into the farm due to fear of elephants. However, on Saturday morning, Sudhakar’s body was found lying in the farm with severe injuries, including a severed head.
The villagers suspect that the elephant attack was the cause of his death, as elephant footprints were found around the farm.
Upon being informed, Karnapur Beat House forest officials and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
