Bhubaneswar: In a bid to reduce the increasing number of road accidents in the state, the Odisha Police has decided to deploy 500 traffic wardens in five districts: Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Ganjam, and Khordha.

This decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by State Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, at the State Police Headquarters.

The meeting emphasised the need for strict implementation of traffic rules, national highway patrolling, CCTV inspection, awareness programs, and road safety education at school and college levels. The DGP stressed the importance of organising awareness programs in schools, colleges, and villages to educate people about road safety. He also directed district Superintendents of Police to take strict action against those who violate traffic rules.

The deployment of 500 traffic wardens in the five districts aims to enhance road safety and reduce accidents. The district SPs will provide employment to these wardens and ensure they receive training in traffic management. The Odisha Police will also focus on identifying accident-prone areas, patrolling national highways, and enforcing traffic rules, such as wearing seatbelts and helmets.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Additional Director General of Security (Coastal and Railway Security) Arun Bothra, State Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, and others.
