Keonjhar: The headmaster of Anjar Government Upper Primary School in Keonjhar has been suspended following a disturbing incident where a Class II student was left locked inside her classroom overnight.
The district collector initiated the action against the headmaster, Goura Hari Mahanta, for dereliction of duty, directing him to join the Block Education Officer of Bansapal block.
The incident occurred when school authorities locked the premises at 4 pm without realising Jyotshna Dehury was still inside. Her family searched for her extensively but couldn’t find her. In a desperate attempt to escape, Jyotshna tried to break through a window, injuring herself in the process. Her legs got stuck in the window frame, and she spent the night dangling, suffering immense pain.
Villagers and family members eventually rescued Jyotshna by fetching the key from the school cook and bending the iron bars of the window. After her rescue, Jyotshna was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment and later returned to school. According to the School and Mass Education Department, Jyotshna is currently in good health.
