Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday evening announced the formation of a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and its neighbourhood, triggered by an upper air cyclonic circulation over the region and adjoining Bangladesh.
According to the IMD bulletin issued at 8:30 pm (based on observations at 5:30 pm), the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height.
The system is expected to move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand during the next 24 hours and weaken gradually thereafter. Weather officials will continue to monitor its movement closely, as such systems typically bring widespread rainfall to eastern and central India.
