Monsoon Rainfall Crosses 1100 MM In Odisha, 28% Above Normal: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has received surplus monsoon rainfall this season, with cumulative rainfall crossing the 1100 mm mark.

According to the Meteorological Centre of Bhubaneswar, the state has recorded 1100.2 mm rainfall from June 1 to August 26, 2026. This is 28% more than the normal rainfall of 856.7 mm for the same period.

The IMD data shows a largely excess rainfall pattern across the state. During this period, four districts have recorded large excess rainfall (60% or more above normal), 18 districts have recorded excess rainfall (20% to 59% above normal) and the remaining 8 districts have received normal rainfall. However, no district has reported deficient rainfall.

As per the district-wise data released on August 26, several districts have witnessed more than 60% departure from normal.

Bargada recorded 1304.9 mm (69%), Sonpur 1546 mm (70%), Boudh 1532.3 mm (98%) and Baleshwar 1383.6 mm (61%).

Districts like Sambalpur 1420.4 mm (46%), Debagada 1332.1 mm (51%), Kendujhar 1337 mm (58%), Mayurbhanj 1253.5 mm (39%), Cuttack 1210.4 mm (44%), Kendrapara 1257 mm (53%) and Jagatsinghpur 1459.6 mm (38%) have recorded excess rainfall.

Southern districts are closer to normal. Malkangiri recorded 857.8 mm (-11%), Koraput 931 mm (1%), Rayagada 720.1 mm (-1%), Gajapati 534.3 mm (-8%), Ganjam 566.5 mm (-9%), Kalahandi 926.7 mm (-13%) and Nabarangapur 865.3 mm (-4%), all falling in the normal category.
