Bhubhaneswar: Police foiled a dacoity attempt and apprehended four persons with weapons near Lighthouse in Kataka city on Tuesday night.
According to police, at about 10 PM on August 25, while police personnel were conducting blocking at OMP Square, reliable information was received that 4-5 anti-socials travelling in a white Maruti Suzuki Swift car had assembled in a secluded area near Lighthouse, Chauliaganj and were preparing to commit dacoity at a nearby petrol pump.
Acting promptly, Chauliaganj Police conducted a raid near Lighthouse and apprehended four persons who were allegedly preparing to commit dacoity at the Chauliaganj petrol pump located on NH-55 (Cuttack-Paradip Road) with the intention of securing pecuniary gain.
Police recovered two billhooks, one sharp knife with plastic cover, one crowbar, a Maruti Suzuki Swift car bearing registration number OD-02-AJ-5815, cash of Rs 2,920, one packet of chilli powder, four mobile phones and five Kingfisher beer bottles from their possession.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mangulu alias Md Arbaj (25), Sk Manohar (26), Sk Salman (28) and Ganeswar Das (23), all residents of Jatani area in Khordha district.During interrogation, it came to light that the accused have involvement in a number of theft and dacoity-related cases and had come to Cuttack carrying deadly weapons for committing the planned dacoity.
Police said accused Sk Salman is involved in three cases, Mangulu alias Md Arbaj in seven cases and Ganeswar Das in one case previously registered at different police stations in Khordha and Sambalpur. Verification of their involvement in other criminal cases is underway.
All four accused were arrested on August 26 and forwarded to court.
