Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have arrested two persons accused of involvement in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on Rakhi Purnima, August 9, at Patrapada in Bhubaneswar.
Soham Raj Tripathi, a private bank manager, and Rohan Ranjan Rout, son of a liquor trader from Patia, were arrested in Delhi. The duo allegedly fled to Manali after the incident and were later hiding in Delhi, where they were vacationing before being caught.
The incident involved a Scorpio and a Mahindra Thar racing, resulting in the deaths of a mother, Rebati Raul, 35, and her 8-year-old daughter, Reshma Raul. The Scorpio driver had been arrested earlier, while Tripathi and Rout were absconding. The Scorpio vehicle involved in the incident has also been seized. An investigation is currently underway to determine if others were involved in the incident.
The arrests come after widespread public outrage and road blockades in response to the incident. The victim’s family had completed the Suddhakriya rituals but was still awaiting justice. The driver of the Thar, Somnath Behera, is still at large, with the police filing a case and continuing the investigation.
