Schools Shut

Bhubaneswar: With the water level of the Baitarani River continuing to rise, the Bhadrak district administration has declared a two-day holiday for schools in four panchayats as a precautionary measure.

The closure will be in effect on August 25 and 26.

According to reports, around 25 schools located in Sahada, Arjunpur, Hasnabad, and Padhani panchayats under Dhamnagar block will remain shut due to the flood-like situation in the area.

In a related development, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for the district. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds with speeds reaching 30–40 km/h are very likely at isolated places in Bhadrak on August 25 and 26.

Additionally, the IMD has predicted the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha–West Bengal coasts, within the next 48 hours. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected to persist across many parts of Odisha until August 30.

The district administration has urged residents to remain alert and follow weather advisories closely.
