Journalist Critically Injured

Bhubaneswar: A journalist sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a youth in Papadahandi village of Nabarangpur district late on Friday night.

The victim, identified as Sumit Kumar Ghanta, a resident of Papadahandi, was initially treated at the Papadahandi Community Health Centre (CHC) before being shifted to the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to a hospital in Visakhapatnam for advanced medical care.

According to reports, the accused, Harekrushna Behera of Banka Sahi, allegedly attacked Ghanta with a knife during an altercation around 11 pm while the journalist was returning home from Nabarangpur. Behera was reportedly in an inebriated condition at the time of the attack.

Ghanta sustained multiple injuries to his stomach, chest, and hands.

Local residents intervened and apprehended Behera, who was then handed over to the police. During the process, Behera was also assaulted by the crowd and admitted to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.
