Bhubaneswar: In a relief to cultivators, the Odisha government has decided to extend the ongoing farmer registration period.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said on Saturday that the extension move is aimed at accommodating farmers who have not yet been able to register.
“A decision will be taken shortly, but the registration period will definitely be extended so that no farmer is left out,” the Minister assured.
Patra informed that this year has seen a record response, with 19.66 lakh farmers already completing the registration process. Interestingly, many who had previously given up farming have returned to the fold, he added.
The Minister further clarified that registrations made using non-agricultural land such as government plots, cremation grounds, or temple lands will be canceled after a field-level verification and survey.
With this extension, the state hopes to bring more genuine cultivators into the system, ensuring better procurement and support benefits for them.
