Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the ‘Karama Purba Sandhya’ programme organised by the Oraon Cultural Society in Chandrashekharpur, emphasising the significance of Karama Puja in promoting unity, nature conservation, and respect for hard work.

The Chief Minister announced that the state government would provide permanent land for the Oraon Cultural Society and incentive funds for the cultural development of the Oraon tribe.

Majhi stressed that the state’s progress is impossible without the development of its 23% tribal population, and therefore, the government’s first priority is the economic, social, and political upliftment of tribes. He highlighted various initiatives, including the construction of tribal culture houses, the promotion of tribal scripts, and the provision of residential education to over 5 lakh tribal students, with 60% being girls.

The Chief Minister also mentioned the launch of 15 Ekalavya Model Schools, scholarships, vocational training, and the Shahid Madho Singh Hath Kharcha Yojana, which provides financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 to each of 3 lakh tribal children to reduce dropout rates.

Union Minister Jual Oram, Scheduled Caste and Tribe Welfare Minister Nityanand Gond, and other dignitaries were present at the program, which aimed to promote the cultural heritage and unity of the Oraon community. The Chief Minister’s announcement and the government’s initiatives underscore the importance of preserving tribal culture and promoting the welfare of tribal communities in Odisha.
