Bhubaneswar: Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra on Thursday said the state government will carefully examine the Orissa High Court’s directives regarding the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) election before initiating further steps.

“The department will study the High Court’s directives and take necessary steps as per the legal processes and established government procedures,” the minister said.

He further emphasized that the government is committed to holding the SMC election and that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi himself is closely reviewing the matter.

“The Chief Minister is keen on ensuring the election takes place, and the government is actively considering the way forward,” Mahapatra added.

The minister’s remarks come in the backdrop of the High Court’s recent directions on the long-pending civic election, which has been a subject of public demand and political attention in western Odisha.
