Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy from Damana village, drowned in a canal while filming a reel with friends near Daruthenga on the outskirts of Bhubnaeswar, on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Prakash Sethi.
According to reports, Prakash and six friends had gone to the canal to take a bath, despite warnings from locals about the strong currents due to heavy rainfall.
Ignoring the warnings, the boys decided to film a slow-motion reel of themselves jumping into the canal. One by one, they took the leap, but Prakash slipped into a deeper section and couldn’t swim back. When he went missing, onlookers raised an alarm, prompting fire personnel to launch a search operation.
After an hour-long search, Prakash was found unconscious at the far end of the canal bank and rushed to Daruthenga Hospital. Despite attempts at CPR, he was declared dead on arrival. The incident has cast a gloom over the village.
