Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA), Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), New Delhi, organised a workshop on ‘New Criminal Laws’ for police officers ranked from Inspector to Additional Superintendent of Police, designated as Master Trainers.

The workshop, held in two phases from September 8-12 and September 15-19, 2025, aimed to familiarise officers with the key provisions of the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

This initiative seeks to facilitate a smooth transition from the previous legal framework by equipping officers with a thorough understanding of the changes and their application in investigation, prosecution, and trial.

Sessions were led by expert faculty from BPR&D, senior police officials, academicians, and legal practitioners, using a participatory approach comprising lectures, presentations, and group discussions. Upon completion, the Master Trainers will disseminate their knowledge across police districts and establishments to ensure uniformity and professionalism in enforcing the new laws at the grassroots level.

The workshop was inaugurated by Anup Kumar Sahoo, IGP (Training) and Director of BPSPA. A total of 47 officers participated in the programme.
