Ghasiram Majhi

Bhubaneswar: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Tuesday announced Ghasiram Majhi as the party’s official candidate for the upcoming bye-election to the 71-Nuapada Assembly Constituency in Odisha.

The candidature was approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, according to a press release issued by AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal.

The bye-election was necessitated due to a vacancy in the Odisha Legislative Assembly. With this move, the Congress aims to regain its foothold in western Odisha.

Majhi, a senior party worker with grassroots presence in Nuapada, had earlier contested the seat on a Congress ticket in 2014 and 2019. His campaign is expected to focus on local development, employment, and welfare-related issues.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the poll schedule for the bye-election. Voting will take place on November 11, 2025, with counting scheduled for November 14, 2025.
